| The Ramones were an American Rock band formed in Queens , New York in 1974. They are often known as the first Punk Rock band. All four members took on pseudonyms bearing the last name Ramone. The Ramones did 2,263 concerts non-stop over the course of 22 years, finally breaking up after a farewell show at Lollapalooza music festival in 1996. The Ramones heavily influenced the punk rock movement not only in the United states but also in the United Kingdom . They have been ranked in the Rolling Stone list of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time and 25 Greatest Live Albums of All Time along with by VH1 in the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and by Mojo for100 Greatest Albums. Spin magazine ranked them as the second greatest band of all time, following The Beatles. They were brought into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March of 2002. |
