David Bowie, or, David Robert Hayward-Jones, is an English musician, actor and record producer. Because of his wok in the 1970s he is known to be very innovative and has been a major influence to many musicians, known for his unique voice and depth of the work that he does. The public first became aware of David Bowie when the song Space Oddity got onto the top 5 of the UK singles in 1969.
Bowie came back to the public eye in 1972 to the glam rock years as being flamboyant, androgynous, with an alter ego of Ziggy Stardust. David Bowie first got success in the United States with his single Fame, co-written by John Lennon. Bowie was 29th in the 2002 poll of the 100 Greatest Britons, has sold approximately 136 million album during his career, and was ranked 39th by Rolling Stone on the list of 100 Greatest Rock Artists of All Time.
